In this tutorial I will show you how to make a very nice elegant but dark photo manipulation.
First find an image to use. In this tutorial I used a wallpaper of Alexis Bledel and resized it. Make sure the image you choose is darker otherwise you won’t get the same effect as me.
Here is the stock image.
Now lets begin.
Open up your image on Photoshop. And duplicate the layer of the image.
On to the Gaussian Blur.
The settings I did were.
Then Desaturate the following like so.
Then set the later to Multiply.
Now Merge the two layers together.
Get the Dodge tool out.
And clean up around her face and make it a little more vibrant, since we want her face to be the focal point.
Afterwards choose the Burn Tool and make around her eyes dark.
After doing both of these it should look similar to this.
After this duplicate the layer, then desaturate and set the layer to Lighten.
Now it’s the final steps of the photo manip.
Go to the circle that’s half white and half black and click on it.
Then go to Brightness/Contrast and apply the following.
Next go to Curves and apply.
And lastly Levels.
And the final result should be something like this.
Or if you want you can take it one small step further. All you need to do is go to Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask. And play with the settings. After so mine came out like this.
The final result looks slightly awkward due to her right arm being quite thin around her elbow area.
Excellent run-through, but please alter color of your comments to a more readable shade of blue/black. There is also a spelling mistake. ‘Then set the later & Multiply’ should be ‘Then set the latter & Multiply’
